Porsche deals not only with motor vehicles. The Porsche Design Studio was opened in Stuttgart in 1972 by professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the man who designed the Porsche 911, grandson of the Porsche founder. Two years later this Porsche Design Studio was moved to Zell am See, Austria. The 911 quickly became the quintessential sports car and a design classic, along with many other products that professor F. A. Porsche designed. It stays on the top until now. Over the last few decades, numerous classic men’s accessories such as watches, glasses and writing utensils were created and marketed worldwide under the “Porsche Design” brand. At the same time, many industrial products and household- and consumer goods for internationally recognized clients were developed under the “Design by F.A. Porsche” brand. All of the Studio’s design work is distinguished by clarity and functionality of form, careful selection of materials, and high-quality workmanship that combines traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology. Since 2005, all products have been developed and marketed under the brand Porsche Design. Porsche Design products have won accolades at several international competitions for their exceptional quality and design. The IF Forum Hanover, the Red Dot Award, and the EISA Award are some of them. The Porsche designs can even be spotted in the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The Porsche’s designs are reflections of Porsche’s personal philosophy: “Timeless good design is not just a matter of superficial styling. Rather, it is a process that takes place from within, as part of the formal implementation of a functional principle.” Each of Porsche’s designs is reduced to their essential function to impart the clear and linear shape that is the signature of Porsche. Employing the most appropriate and advanced materials, the company fabricates their remarkable designs.
